Another winter reading assignment…

Doug Preston and Lincoln Child just released a new novel called Two Graves. You will remember that Doug and Forrest are great friends. Doug invited Forrest out to lunch the other day and showed him the new book. He dedicated it to Forrest…

How cool is that?

2gHmmm..Two Graves…sounds like a solution to a riddle about three searchers..
What do you have to dig when you and your two friends find Forrest’s treasure?

The book is another in a series of rump tightening mysteries involving their long time protagonist, Special Agent Pendergast. Preston and Child are “A-List” mystery writers. So, I’m thinking this is going to be a good read that I can start right after the holidays. And, who knows…since he dedicated it to Forrest…maybe there’s a clue hidden in there somewhere…Maybe I’ll find out what a blaze is…

Just a thought.

  1. Forrest does something few people can, he makes you think….. i’m sure that many are thinking, where, when you should be thinking why?

When I was a young boy, < than 10, I discovered magnets and motors. I remember getting something called a Mr. Machine, a robot kind of thing. I destroyed the toy to get the magnets out. Boy, my mother was mad as it was brand spanking new…. How do you explain that to Uncle Walter? He loved your present so much, he smashed it with a hammer. Then there was the time Uncle Carl gave me one of those crank things out of an old phone….but that's another story for another time.

I used to play with magnets and mercury too! Anyway, if you ever play with magnets you learn some things. i had hours of fun with a force I could not see. It was much later, well not much, say eighteen, after having already read Einstein and going to radar school I learned the theory's behind some of this stuff.

Einstein was supposedly working on something called the unified field theory. The one that would connect magnetic fields, gravitational fields, time & light & life. I won't put the math to it, let my daughter the physicist do that. Forrest even quotes him with, "Imagination is better than knowledge"… how true.

They say energy can not be created or destroyed, it's just converted from one form to another.

Magnets are usually iron, theoretically all the little atoms are arranged the same way and create a force and a field. They always have two sides and opposites attract and likes repel. Then there is the fact that a current flow in a wire wrapped around a piece of iron will make a magnet to. A magnet can create a current and a current can create a magnet. When the current stops the magnet is dead and then there is the "left hand rule". Simple but the laws of the universe…

Life is kind of like that. The two sides are life and death, with the current of life flowing in between creating this force that is our very being. Call it the "life force" and when the current stops your dead. Not really though, just converted to another form. In life opposites attract, male, female, husband, wife. Sometimes we meet people that instantly we dislike, they put off a negative field that reacts with ours and pushes us away. I think most of time we levitate through life at that special distance where forces around us all equal out. Things that were created by this life force, from arrowheads and paintings to blacksmith made antiques, everything we make contains a part of you. When you hold old things in your hands you can feel it too, just like two magnets in your hands. Once your dead and gone, tools and art are pretty much all that's left of you.

Forrest felt it in that clearing before his life had clear meaning. The reason you collect is that it gives you more power, forces multiply, the fields get stronger. Gold is a very good conductor, silver is better but fame's cloth is gold. Lot's of power there, that's why people chase after it.

Another thing this life force can create is something called love and hate. Some people say that if you have love and the right wife you don't need buried treasure. That's my theory of life and if you don't get it, I'm truly sorry for you.
