Scrapbook Forty…

September 2013

I wonder if any of your bloggers know of a cartoonist who wants to illustrate a children’s book I am working on. The person must have a sense of humor, talent, and a willingness to work with someone who doesn’t have the slightest idea about what he is doing.ff

Forrest is working on a children’s book. So what I thought we would do is ask you to communicate with your friends or acquaintances who are illustrators or who should be illustrators and let them know what Forrest is considering. Ask them to send us a sample of appropriate work at dal@lummifilm.com.

I will post their image right below this message and send Forrest their email address so he can contact them if he wishes..  Anyone who wants to work with Forrest can send in a sample for him to look at.

This might be interesting …

  1. I had a friend who was an extremely great cartoonist. He did comics in papers and a lot of other great places. He was suppose to head to California with an incredible offer. Unfortunately, he just passed away a few months ago from an asthma attack that sent him into cardiac arrest. Its a shame really.

  2. I know just the perfect person!! Her name is Anita and she’s already illustrated a similar project (for a book launched @ Collected Works!). I’ll rustle her up right now….

  3. A Forrest Fenn children’s book is a WONDERFUL idea! There is so much for them to learn from a very wise member of our greatest generation. And the illustration samples are good also:-) 🙂

  4. I am so glad Forrest is doing a childrens book! Im sure it will be very entertaining. I have had so much fun with the chase, learning so much from Forrest.

The art work is awesome! Yay, more fun!

  5. I love art class!! Will you humor me to add a bit of poetry to this creative thread? It’s a song about song, as it were, to someone’s someone…

A string is strummed and creates sound,
Unique as sphere of distant land.
The note of each is uniquely one,
Least in time like a grain of sand.

Wonder to which that wave is won,
from sinew strung with ancient hands.
    The thinkers discord ponders on,
    be metal wound in multi-strands?

Or is it the structure of the vaulted well,
    from distant yonder Forrest whittled?
Inlaid in woods of rose or shell,
    resonance guarantees beauty little.

Some say it’s stretched with skins prepared,
or bridges cast of iron rails.
Still others stake claims in air,
of caverns, dells or concrete dale.

All that noise is to no avail,
though the words be true, and yet,
    Sweet music will often fail,
have peace, you need not fret.

Just caress with care above the neck,
follow the path up to truth I beg.
For only strings can touch the soul,
when steadied by the tuning Peg.

Yes he did. I asked him about that. He replied that TFTW was his last book and that the children’s book will be his next book…
Although I cannot gripe about his logic…
It does take me by surprise sometimes…

I suspect he is enjoying writing more than he was when he made that “last book” statement and just feels he now has a kids book inside him…

  6. I can’t draw very good but I would love to have the opportunity to work with ff. Any room in there for a good imagination? I’m available!

  7. I enjoyed looking at your posted submissions by potential children’s book cartoonists. My favorite is by George Lawrence in the Darwin picture. My second choice would be the blue cows by Kevin Brunner because of the coloring. However, I am not a kid and I do not know what children like. Good job by all.
