Meet The Getchius Family

Hello Forrest! We are the Getchius Family from the North-East USA… Vermont and PA to be exact. Our family consists of Myself (Amber) and my Husband of 13 years Ryan. Our 3 young boys are:
Phoenyx – 7
Braylon – 5
Lyric – 2
Scottish Terrier, 3 year old Scottie. He loves the searches too!

A little about us:
My husband is a power lineman and works a lot! 7 days a week, 12-14hr days mostly. We are (were) saving to Pay off 16 acres we bought to homestead in beautiful upstate NY.
Well, Ryan had a job end short of its end date and we took that savings and made a different choice.
What a great idea that was! Its been 2 months and 4 states so far! ๐Ÿ™‚

We camp in the truck, and get a room every to shower up every 3 days-ish or
“wow we smell ” moment. We thought you would enjoy some pics we took today while on the hunt in wyoming (for the second time) ๐Ÿ™‚

image10This cave we came upon today while searching, (we named it Memory Cave) We love it and immediatly knew where we were laying our heads tonight, Camping under the stars in that cave. So awesome. The kids gathered a TON of wood (see pic)! So proud. Now we are making hobo dinner (ball of beef in the center of a tin foil house surrounded by sweet onion, garlic, butter, S&P, and carrots. Sealย the 4 layers of greased foil and put it in the coals of the fire. 45 min later, unfold center closure and Voila! Dinner already in your plate!

Tomorrow bacon, egg and cheese (make on a rock pf course) sandwiches for breakfast and fire roasted hotdogs for lunch. Then on to our next solve ๐Ÿ™‚

Anyways, we hope you enjoy the pics!
Thanks for the Thrill and the Chase ๐Ÿ™‚

With free Souls,
The Getchius Family

Every solve yields at least 2 new weapons the boys protect us all with

See! Now thats in the wood!

See! Now thats in the wood!

We always talked about working to save enough money to treasure hunt, run out of money, back to work (repeat as needed)

So Thanks!

  1. Ramona, looks like we are the only ones awake… Did you find a search partner?

I can’t sleep. I fell asleep right after Suzanne danced and woke up 3 hours later…
Now I can’t get back to sleep. I’ve got to try though. Need to get up really early.

    • Sorry WiseOne, I didn’t see this post until today. The blog did seem to be a little dead at that time so I just went to bed. Hope you were able to get back to sleep and are having a good day today.

P.S. No I did not find a search partner yet. Thanks for asking.

  2. The Getchius family is awesome ! That’s the life. I bet those boys will remember this forever…Good luck ! I live in VT too.

  3. Hobo Dinner! I’ve cooked that stuff before camping and I gotta say….. I love those kind of meals over a kitchen cooked meal. Being made by limited means, and out in the wild like that makes the people eating it so much more appreciative of the environment they’re in. And those sweet onions really taste good done that way ๐Ÿ˜›

  4. Hello Getchius Family,

You certainly are brave and in the cold. Looks like your on a Hardscrabble MT.
This adventure should bring you many good memories. The very best to you.
And thank you for the nice post.

  5. What a great family adventure! Looks amazing! Those kids will remember and cherish that family time forever!

  6. Amber, I love your family and the way y’all do things! Wish I was with y’all! Adorable family! I thought there would be more snow there in Wyoming though. Are you in the North, South, East, or West Wyoming? Be safe and good luck!

  7. Very inspiring! I would be a liar to tell you I am not jealous. I think what you are doing is amazing and wish you and your family all of the best on your “chase”. In the immortal words of Mark Twain,โ€œ..Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover..โ€

  8. Amber

What an adventure looks like y’all are having fun. Forrest says never give up. ๐Ÿ™‚ Good luck search forever ๐Ÿ™‚

  9. Amber, what great parents you and your husband are to provide your children with this great adventure – and what a treasure they must be to you! Best wishes to you and your family – it looks like you are all having a great time.

  10. Amber,
An incredible and very heartwarming story! You’ve already succeeded in gathering a treasure trove of lifetime memories and photos for you and your family, and I hope you add Forrest’s treasure chest to that trove. The best of luck to you and yours in the Chase, and stay safe out there.

  11. Amber, Great story…your boys are so lucky to have parents that take them camping (and roughing it, too…sleeping under the stars) and on such a great adventure. You all should cherish these trips together forever…keep up the chase. Happy hunting and good luck.

  12. Amber, thank you for sharing your adventure and pictures. What great memories for you all to remember for the rest of your lives.

  13. Great storyโ€ฆโ€ฆ.You should write a book about your adventures. Reading your story immediately reminded me of an old saying and an old song.

Cast your fate to the windโ€ฆโ€ฆ.The pessimist complains about the wind; the optimist expects it to change; the realist adjusts the sails.

A family of means by no means
    Kings of the road

  14. You can’t manufacture or replace memories like that. You are certainly free spirits. Keep camping, dreaming and traveling!

  15. Thanks yall! It’s been a blast! The kids are in awe of their pics on the “big web” lol

  16. Thanks Forrest and Dal for wanting to share out story. We feel blessed to be able to experience this journey. We appreciate the kind words that are our daily swift kick in the butt to keep on seeking. Thanks yall!
It’s been an eye opening, and soul freeing adventure so far! As long as the Ram keeps charging and the kids are willing, we’ll will keep persevering.
Best of luck and be safe! We’re all in it together.

    Making Memories,
    The Getchius Family

    • Just remember the adventure is only part of it. Don’t forget to make sure those kids get some basic schooling . Falling behind on education for children is hard on them when they get back to a more normal routine . Nice Pics and memories that last a lifetime.Looks like a neat place to explore. I didn’t see a metal detector! ..You just never know what you might find. Stay safe and enjoy .

          • They learn more from
Being home schooled and traveling my daughter did ๐Ÿ™‚ even I learned more from traveling than I ever was taught in school thanks to being a linemans wife I walked where sitting bull walked I stood in the forts where he was held captive stood on the land where many Indians where brutally murdered by the hands of Custer home schooling is the best ๐Ÿ™‚ you are a great family

  17. I’m
Married to a lineman too y’all sound like us Tramping around with work and in the woods haha. Right now we are in North Dakota loved your story

  18. Nothing sweeter than a family playing together. Throw the electronic devices, except the metal , away. Shared smilies will always work together. Reminds me of something I read before about personalities galore.

  19. ๐Ÿ™‚ I agree bajaau…Nice family photos Getchius Family… ๐Ÿ™‚
Thanks for your story. Looks like a fun time for All.
bajaau, I assume you are referring to SB126… I love that one.

    • I feel honored, the “Wise One” asking me a question. Since I always do things backwards I’m going to say yes to the 126 and then double check. And like you I love personalities galore.

      • LOL…Honored?… That’s a laugh! I don’t feel very wise right about now. And with some of the stupid things I’ve done in my life, certainly proves it. Double checking one’s work sometimes proves to be beneficial though. We need to have mettle and do everything we can to be certain of our answers.
Funny, I do things backwards too sometimes. Lefties are like that.
Yes, 126… Personalities Galore…That’s my favorite SB.

        • Wise one you are. A little something you don’t know about me. A quote from a movie you see. His name was Tom. Some thought he was Forrest. But when I looked in the mirror all I saw was stupid is as what? Just think of me from your wise tree.

          • Okay bajaau, if you say so.
“Stupid is as stupid does”… I liked that movie. But what if I can’t get to or find this wise tree? That’s a problem…

          • It’s all a matter of interpretation isn’t it? I thought bajaau was referencing Tom cruise in Top Gun and people thinking the movie could have been about Forrest Fenn, not Forrest Gump.

Back on point, I’m guessing the blaze is either a lightening burned tree which would not be further damaged by fire and looks like tar. Eagles and osprey best in such trees because prey can’t reach them. Could also be a tree with some sort of blaze carved in by Forrest and skippy.

          • anna-

For me the blaze needs to be something more permanent since Forrest has indicated that the treasure might not be found for a hundred or even a thousand years. Something carved in rock might withstand that test of time. So might some sort of geologic mark…a large white streak of quarts in a wall of basalt for instance.

  20. You’re right Dal, permanence is important. (Not sure where my brain vacationed today.) Sometimes I wonder if Forrest already had his effigy or epitaph engraved on a rock and left it at the site long before placing the tc there. But I do think there is a secret kept on location other than the gold’s location.
