A Birthday for Forrest……

Forrest Fenn will be celebrating his 87th birthday on August 22…

Cynthia is asking EVERYONE to send him a birthday card…flood his Santa Fe mailbox.
You can send cards directly to Forrest at:

Forrest Fenn
PO Box 8174
Santa Fe, NM 87504

Prairie Flower suggests we celebrate Forrest by planting trees!

She says: “A man named Forrest should have a forest named after him. It would take an act of Congress to do this, however. So I have come up with a different idea. Let us each plant a tree in honor of him โ€“ wherever you live! (If that is impossible for you to do, perhaps you can dedicate a tree in your yard in honor of him.)
Since a forest is considered to be a community of trees, our trees will be a community in a unique way โ€“ all dedicated to Forrest!”

Prairie Flower has posted the beautiful video of the Forest for Forrest tree dedications everyone sent her. It’s here:

Thanks so much!
Prairie Flower

      • Hi JeffBurch and Titan, I replied recently to one of your past posts from months ago, and I’m so glad to hear you’re still doing well. Your and my stories are very different but, just like you, Forrest’s gift to all of us has also helped me tremendously. And I am thankful that kind souls like you exist in the world who can also see Forrest’s gift is for all of us and is universal on so many levels. I was thinking, based only on the reactions of the folks who I’ve told about the “treasure” who live near me, that perhaps I’m crazy for not thinking the actual money is the end-all, be-all of this whole experience. And most think I’m nuts for keeping on searching when there’s little chance I’ll even get out West in person to search. They think I’m even crazier when I tell them that it’s okay if someone else finds the treasure (I’d just like to eventually know where…or maybe not even. ha ha.) because the whole experience has helped my head so much during such a tragic time in my life that I actually, PHYSICALLY, feel better than I did before. Anyway, I’m rambling. Point is, I’m with you on your thoughts here, so thanks for sharing….and I wish you and Titan all the best.

        • I to am mentally, and physically stronger since starting the chase, and also not crazy. We, here, are a lot alike. Whats stopping you from getting out west? It is so worth while. Pack up the gear and the cargoes. g

    • Desertphile thanks for sharing that is a cool name for a tree i never heard of it but i just googled and learned about it.

      thank You for Your time

    • Dessertphile –

How far is it out to the Forrest Fenn Treasure from Abiquiu Inn?

I plan to spend a couple night there before Taos.

  1. I’m really rooting for this to be a success and I’m knot kidding. Great idea.

  2. Actually, the Norway Spruce seems like a better option here in the mountains north of Santa Fe— many hundreds of millions of trees have died due to human-caused warming of the USA Southwest, and perhaps the Norway Spruce can replace them.

At $60 a tree I cannot buy may: I would *LOVE* to plant at least 20.

  3. I would like to plant a little pine somewhere beautiful in the mountains, where there is a stream.

  4. @Prarie Flower – This is one of the most thoughtful gestures I’ve ever heard of. It is the perfect gift for my own picture of Forrest and the type of person he is. I’d like to suggest that we include our young ones in the planting and pictures where possible so he can see his own hand working in God’s workshop.

  5. I can’t decide between white oak and red oak, so it will be both. Trees that live long, stand strong, give shade in summer and allow sun through in winter with colorful personalities both spring and fall, take on more character with age, and provide homes and food for critters of all kind even after falling to the ground some day.

I doubt I stop at two.

      • I can work with acorns for free, just need to wait till October for them to get ripe. I will buy the first two trees in the typical black plastic containers, Biddy #1 and Biddy #2. Some day they will be two old Biddies.

The treasure will allow me to retire one day and I can plant a world of trees with all that free time. Assuming y’all leave it there a few more months until I return for it.

  6. I love this idea too! My whole family loves trees. The question will be what kind. Any suggestions of a few favorites Forrest?

  7. Fenn Forest could make it through congress.
Locally in New Mexico, Ray Powell is running for the State Land Office again.
He might be willing to consider naming some place after FF.

  8. Thanks for the tree idea dal. The New Mexico Department of Agriculture sells saplings of every tree that will grow in this state. The price varies around $3.00 They said my pines would grow a foot each year, and they have exceeded that. Some are 30′ tall now. f

    • Did you plant them when diagnosed with cancer as a long-term object to focus on?

    • This sounds like a great program. I remember the video clip of your back yard, and I believe know what type of pines you have. Would these be the same pine trees planted when you lost your aspen trees?

    • A little extra watering helps! Plus it saves on the water bill when you don’t have to flush all the time.

    • I wish I could claim the tree idea Forrest but it’s not mine. I haven’t had any good ideas since 1986. This is Prairie Flower’s idea…

      • Now you did it Dal. Here come all the “age/old” jokes. Did the Earth have trees back in 1986, was the car invented yet, didn’t dinosaurs rule back in 1986, and yada, yada, yada… You will never learn…Bright side, at least you’ve had a good idea…

      • tsk tsk charlie – for suggesting that Dal was born before 1886 ๐Ÿ™

i mean… it’s quite obvious to anyone with a trained eye, that he wasn’t actually born until1896 sometime..
        ..at the very latest ๐Ÿ™‚

(oh wait?! ..did you say eighteen(?) or ninet[BANNED!!]

    • Very nice! The place I used to camp as a kid was full of pines and always smelled great. Now I am in San Diego and since it is closer to desert like pines do not do so well. We have some nice California natives and drought tolerant plants. I was thinking of doing some type of fruit tree and now seems like a good time to do so. We built a small fish pond in the backyard with a waterfall recently and maybe we can find room near that.

    • Happy Birthday Sir when you get to it. I will try to comply with this adventure But i will need to use a snow shovel to clear the space on earth that it will be planted yep snow in colorado today who would guess.

    • Can I make a plug for the planting of native trees?

Any state’s Dept. of Ag would have a similar list, and by planting native trees, you strengthen the local environment. You will also need to use less water (native plants are already adapted for the most part), and you will not be accidentally introducing a tree species which would compete for resources with other native plants (invasive).

  9. I’ve been wanting a pink dogwood forever…what a better time to plant one! Great idea!

  10. Also, where my mom is buried, you can purchase memorial trees…I may get her a dogwood too! They have several established dogwoods throughout!

  11. I think I’ll plant a weeping willow…. since “grandmotherly wisdom” seems to be failing…. ( scrapbook 146 ) I feel safe in doing so.. ๐Ÿ™‚

    “The Willow”

Near the water, a willow grows,

Weeping as, the soft wind blows.

    Beneath within ,the shaded grass,

Etched in stone, as smooth as glass.

This willow was planted, way back when,

To honor a man, named Forrest Fenn.

Who took the time, while passing through,

To give adventures, to me and you.

With this willow , upon the bank,

To him I give , my honest thanks.

This weeping willows, a symbol of,

    Strength, faith, hope and love……..

    By: Focused

Just messing around… but I think I will plant a willow…. see ya my friends

      • Thanks jdiggins…..hope all is well for you… until next time… see ya my friend

        • All is well, my friend. Out working in the garden by day. Have to go run errands in a bit…the whole shebang- gas, post office, smokes, milk…won’t be going back down for a few days…gotta stock up! I’m hoping you are well, also, my friend. Until next time…see ya! ๐Ÿ™‚

      • Thank you Jeannie ….. I’m glad you liked it. My thoughts just ran away with me…lol have a great evening my friend…. until next time… see ya

    • Another great poem, Focused. I can see the willow flowing in the breeze. Very nice.

      • Thanks pdenver… I glad you could see the picture… have a good night my friend…. see ya

  12. Curious hobbit, hey buddy I think you should plant a “banana tree”…. I hear that in your neck of the woods the weather’s perfect…..then you could grab every banana ๐Ÿ™‚

Pls- stay away from lemon trees ๐Ÿ™‚ see ya my friend ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Gosh Focused, if there weren’t any lemon trees planted, there wouldn’t be any fresh squeezed lemonade, Lemon Meringue pies, or slices of lemon on the edge of a tall glass of iced tea on a hot summer’s day.

      • You’ve got a good point pdenver… you know, when curious hobbit grills for us on the beach, I think a lemon pie would be great , and a lemon slice with our tea ( or other drink) would also be nice……. ๐Ÿ™‚

Ok curious hobbit…. scratch what I said about the banana tree….me and pdenver think the lemon tree fits you better…. ๐Ÿ™‚

(Pss… pdenver, now we just got to get him to agree on the grilling on the beach part…. )

        See ya my friend

        • Perhaps he’ll grill some fresh-caught fish, with a slab of butter, seasonings and slices of lemon on top, and wrapped in foil. Yum! I can smell it now!

          • Sound good to me pdenver… humm

I think I’ll call it a night with that thought…..

            Sleep well my friend…

Until next time.. see ya ๐Ÿ™‚

  13. The trees that I will plant for Forrest are going to be Tamarack trees and will be around the perimeter of our new house site. The Latin name for Tamarack is Larix laricina. Other common names are American Larch, Red larch, Black Larch, takmahak and Hackmatack, which is an Abenaki word for ‘wood used for snowshoes’ It is a deciduous conifer meaning it sheds it’s needles in the fall. It commonly grows in swamps and sphagnum bogs but also grows in upland soils (Forrest Fenn) The tender springs shoots are nutritious and can be eaten when they are boiled. The inner bark can be scraped ,dried and ground into a meal to be mixed with other flours.. The tea used from tamarack bark is used as a laxative, tonic ,a diuretic for jauntice, rheumatism and skin ailments. It is gargled for sore throats.Poultices from the inner bark are used on sores, swelling and burns,as well as for headaches. A tea from the needles is used as an astringent, and for piles diarrhea ,dysentery and dropsy.. The gum from the tamerack sap is chewed for indigestion. The roots are used to make twined woven bags There are a number of many uses of the Tamarack or Larch as we call it and I think a good fit for being honored to Forrest.

    • I have a larch I am dedicating to Forrest. I think it’s the perfect tree for Forrest’s forest. It’s been through hell . Once it got broken in half when my husband backed a truck over it. I was just sure it had killed that tree, losing its top like that . It struggled and lived despite its rough beginnings. It’s become a lovely tree that is home right now to a set of doves. They are content to coo over their eggs in a tree that I didn’t even believe would survive in our climate. I planted this tree when we bought the property , back when my body cooperated with me ! So yes this will be my dedicated tree for my friend Forrest Fenn. Please show some photos of your larches when you get it done. They are the most beautiful trees. This is a wonderful Idea, thank you Prairie Flower and Dal !

  14. I think it’s a great idea to plant trees in honor of FF.

I will plant some apple seeds near where I think the TC is, before
    August 22.

I saw a thorny berry plant of some kind right near there, but don’t know whether the location and soil are suitable for apple trees to thrive.

It’s worth a try. If it works, maybe the bears will enjoy an occasional apple snack.

    All this is my opinion.

  15. I just love this idea. As a child, our family camped and hiked throughout the Pacific Northwest and into Montana. My dad always spoke of expanding the range but unfortunately passed away before his vision came true. My husband and I travel quite a bit and in my father’s memory wherever we go someplace new I find a nice flat rock and write “JJB was here” (his initials) since his spirit is with me always. Along that vein, not only will I plant a tree in honor of Mr. Fenn’s birthday, but I now plan on planting a sapling or cone for Mr. Fenn wherever I search . Kind of a Johnny Appleseed thing. Thanks for the idea Prairie Flower and to Dal for passing this on to us.

  16. “After all,I don’t see why I am always asking for private, individual, selfish miracles when every year there are miracles like white dogwood.

    ~ Anne Morrow Lindbergh

  17. I am so happy everyone loves my idea!

Be sure and tell me the type of tree you plant along with your name, photo and location! Send all info to the email mentioned above!

    Prairie Flower

  18. Such a nice thought Prarie Flower. Like the new fad in baby shoes, getting them bronzed, I think I will have a copy of the tree bronzed before planting.

  19. Great idea! If you happen to be on a limited budget, Arbor Day Foundation has small and affordable trees.

  20. Tom T here, as many of you know I live at 8000′ elevation here in mts. of New Mexico, and on my 10 acres in Tijeras are some monster Ponderosa Pines, some stand almost 100′, not as big as those where the Old family live at Viveash Mesa/Ranch but sizable, none the less.

Our land is covered in mature Ponderosa, huge Pinon Pine and lots of Alligator Juniper, some of these trees are 5′ caliper or better. Recently an officer from the US Forest Service Tijeras field office came out to visit and did an accessment of the health of the forest on this tract of land, she told me I had an Alligator Juniper, which sits in the middle of my driveway, and has about 5’6″ caliper that may be over a thousand years old. In this majestic tree I carefully built a tree house, I did it without harming the tree, to prove it could be done and none of the tree house rests on the bark of this old beauty, I supported the frame with 14′ stanchions it has a 14′ ladder and a trap door with an enclose guard rail for keepin kids safe and best of all a 20′ graphite slide with 2 loops turns just for fun just cause Grandpa is Terrific.

The US Forest Service is helping us to keep this lush pine and mixed conifer forest healthy, and that means thinning some smaller trees, so I am offering to allow some people to remove some small pinon trees rather than just cull them with chain saws, our problem is too many trees, which if not removed become susceptible to forest fires, bark beatles, etc.

I feel each year that none of my large trees are cut down it is equivalent to planting many trees so if you are interested email me: tomterrific1947@gmail.com …now if you want one small pinon or a small ponderosa early spring is the best time, and this is not easy work, lots of diggin to get a nice root ball, it will soon be too warm for pine to survive at lower elevations or hot climates.

    The Thinning will commence soon.

Tom Terrific, as always Mr Enthusiastic when it comes to saving the Rockies… TTTTTT is all in..

    • did you know that some the seeds of some trees must first pass through the digestive tract of an animal before they can germinate? i didnt know that. wow, i been plantin trees my whole life. well, except when constipation is a bother.

  21. I don’t feel safe planting trees ๐Ÿ™ lol

My wife kills our trees ๐Ÿ™ We used to have a bunch of Orange trees and Loquat trees. She thinks they can be pruned anytime, took the saw to the branches and killed them all.

I wish she would kill one of the palm trees out front that grows 10 foot long branches every 10 months and I need to pay someone to go up and trim it so the roof doesn’t get destroyed. lol

PS: I’m kidding of course, but it irks me because trees are not exactly cheap, especially fruit bearing ones. heh

    • Palm trees huh, are you in Cali? I have a hard time keeping plants alive too…

    • LOL She does her best, and she loves you I am sure. That is all that is important. I collect heart shaped rocks, maybe you could do that for her too? (Treasures old ? ) Once you start doing it you will see love everywhere you look, and she will always be with you.

  22. My book and all notes for almost six years where stolen out of my truck five days ago along with change and cd”s. I have decided I am done with the chase. Some little jerk has no idea of the time that he has taken from me.Tomorrow I will post all ideas I have that I can remember for the chase.

    • Sorry to hear that, Jason. Don’t give up on the Chase just because some 2-bit car thief stole your notes. They probably have no idea what to do with the material if they are getting through life by breaking into other people’s cars.

    • Jason,
Please just hold on, I know you have suffered an incredible loss! Jason, I know how you feel, believe me and your going through the revenge, hate, I can’t take this anymore stage.
Please reconsider your options, you have work hard for 6 years, you have retained some of the information, the important stuff to you.
Don’t let your emotion’s take over, it will kill you, spiritually, mentally, and could harm you physically, the unbalanced mind can lose all control and Jason when that happens you can go into a darkness that takes you too places you never in your life would expect.
Don’t let that creepy thug take you down to his level
Don’t worry he’ll get caught one of these days, because his behavior won’t change!!
Jason don’t give up on Mr.Fenn’s opportunity.
      Don’t give up on yourself!
Well, Jason I hope your alright, when someone takes your sense of being, it’s murder!
      Take care, Martha

    • IMO, If you’ve been in the chase for six years. The important things are already in your head. A treasure hunters mind is like a sponge. The rest at your fingertips via laptop. Tarryscant.com is a helpful search tool. g

    • It may be a good opportunity for you to take a second look at the poem, but this time just have some fun with it and only look in ways in which you have never looked at it before. You can never really leave the chase. It’s become part of us. We all look at things a little bit different now. Good luck.

    • Jason;

So sorry for your loss. If you are anything like me, you have stored reams and reams of ideas on your computer. Take the time to cull through your saved items. If no computer files, rest assured that it is all stored in the computer that is between your ears. Access THOSE files, and recreate what was stolen from you. Hang in there guy JDA

    • keep ya chin up Jason – not such a massive tragedy, right?

( ..unless they were Billy Joel CDs – then i def feel for ya ๐Ÿ™ )

  23. I think everyone in the chase should plant a tree in the name of Forrest on his birthday in August!

  24. For the life of me I can’t seem to find a Time (?) Magazine article which included a photo of The Flyer and a ray of light shining down upon him from above. His surroundings appeared to be a small, circular (?) , enclosed area.

Might anyone recall the article? I believe it to be quite worthy of discussion.

    pdenver ? smile ~

    • Gosh, now I’m trying to think of which one. The photo that comes to mind is him standing in a room, a window is high above on a wall, I can’t remember what’s in this room, but I think the sun was shining down on him. Do you recall if one of the photos had him sitting down on a wood chair? I’ll have to see if I can find this because it’ll drive me crazy if I don’t. ๐Ÿ™‚

  25. I probably should check Dal’s “Media Coverage” page, but have chosen to look online at the moment. There’s a lot of photos of Mr. Fenn with the sun shining upon him. Now to figure out which article you speak.

    • Gosh, my friend, it seems his quote, ‘To an ant, a mud puddle can be an ocean’ is quite popular. I can only giggle at myself for trying to understand him.

  26. pdenver,

Think of how that ant…..standing/kneeling on a ‘bridge’ might see things!

I’m also prone to think that The Flyer might feel closer to Eric when on a…bridge. Imagine what he could be able to see!

  27. Ok ok I’ll plant the pussy willow tree for the ole coot We all know why. Hahahah big ole flirt Every time I look at it I’ll definitly R.E.M Forrest and laugh .

  28. Prairie Flower – this is a great idea! If all goes as planned, we’ll sign papers for our new home on June 12th. Once we have taken possession of said home, I’ll plant a tree in the yard and take a picture to send along to you.

  29. I also will be building a home this year. I’ll post my tree pic as well.

  30. Dal, Could you please put this thread on the home page or make it noticeable again for the last of us who want to contribute a picture of a tree for ff’s birthday which is August 22nd?

Also, I think everyone who appreciates what Forrest has done and continues to do should send him a Happy Birthday card. He will be 87 years old August 22. Forrest Fenn, PO Box 8174, Santa Fe, NM 87504 Let’s flood the Santa Fe post office with Happy Birthday greetings!

    • I think we should have someone set up a second Santa Fe post office box, send a ton of cards to that second box, write a poem with clues on how to figure out where the key is to that second box, and finally we should send the *poem* to his PO Box 8174. ๐Ÿ™‚

      I’m just kidding. I’ll send a card!

  31. Hi Cynthia – รฎ’m actually going to plant numerous trees this weekend so it’s great timing. I will get a card in the mail soon. Thanks for the reminder.

  32. I’ve already got a card, just been thinking on the right endearment…
Thanks for bringing this back up cynthia, I’ve been wondering…

  33. Cynthia and Prairie Flower-
I sent a pic of my tree to Prairie Flower but I have not selected a card yet..
Here’s an Irish Birthday toast I kinda like:

    A toast to your coffin.
May it be made of 100 year old oak.
And may we plant the tree together, tomorrow.

    • So cool…so sweet. Should we be toasting with Bailey’s Irish Cream since it’s an Irish Birthday Toast? One of my favorite beverages.

  34. A toast for Flyer Forrest Fenn

Hereโ€˜s a toast to the host
Of those who love the vastness of the sky,
To a friend we send a message of his brother men who fly.
We drink to those who gave their all of old,
Then down we roar to score the rainbowโ€˜s pot of gold.
A toast to the host of men we boast, the U.S. Air Force!

    • Nice… I think Forrest was flying one of those planes in the video… lol ๐Ÿ™‚

  35. What an awesome idea, Prairie Flower.

I forgot that you had posted this a few months ago.

I am planting 3 new Austrian Pines into The Fenn Forrest in my backyard.

I already purchased the 3 trees yesterday…and transplanted one today.

I’ll plant the other 2 tomorrow or Monday.

Depending on how the new and improved Fenn Forrest looks I may add a 4th pine tree on Monday.

    Happy Birthday, Forrest Fenn, Sir.

I’m thinking the shadow of the eclipse is happening the day before because Somebody Up There wants The Sun shining brightly on Your Birthday.

    That’s what I think.

  36. An idea for your consideration. For a donation of your choosing (aka budget) the Arbor Day foundation will send you sapling trees. Now, they are saplings (my maple was a twig really) so you will have the distinguished honor of watching then grow from babies to adulthood. My maple of 16 years is now as tall as my house.

I got 20 trees last year and gave most to neighbors and friend because I have no more room on my tiny property. Spread the trees and grow Forrest’s forest while donating to our children’s future forest at the same time. Hope some consider it!

  37. I will plant two trees. One for Mr Fenn, and one to help replace the ones that have been burnt down from our forest fires here in British Columbia.

    • I tell ya what Monika! Since you are going to plant two trees… I will draw two trees on Forrest’s birthday card.

      And I hate drawing! o.o

    • Good idea Monika I will do the same… The smoke has been horrible down here from the fires… ๐Ÿ™

  38. I will share a photo of myself next to a pine tree with Forrest’s treasure on August 22 ๐Ÿ™‚

And Happy Solar Eclipse everyone! (August 21)

  39. What would be an awesome gift and end to the chase would be if Forrest’s row bracelet were in his PO Box for his birthday…no name or return address. Folks would know the chase is over, Forrest could rest from the masses and 7%, the finder could go in peace and be spared the 7% by remain anonymous. That gives the finder 2 weeks to become the finder!

Searching about no more myself but still cheering for an end to let Forrest be in peace.

  40. In honor of Forest, I planted a Maple tree this weekend at my home with my 4 year old son. A couple feet in front of the tree I buried a hopefully waterproof box, something for my son to dig up one day.
A couple of the items in the box are; a note written as if i was writing to him 30 years from now thinking back to the day we planted the tree and of course I tell him about the Forest Fenn Treasure, a 2017 Silver Eagle, 1917 Lincoln cent, and some of my favorite Morgan Silver dollars.
I hope he sees the video we made so he knows to look for it one day.
God Bless You Forest and Happy Early Birthday

  41. Very Happy Early Birthday to you Forrest, May God Bless you on this day and every day. Will be planting a Tree for you and sending you a card. To GOD be the Glory

  42. If you live in an area with dry topsoil. Water, water, water, till the roots grow strong and deep. g

  43. Thanking the Flyer for offering so much and for so long:

“A bounty of gratitude for enriching my life, and causing me to be better for having passed my view.”

Have a warm and loving Birthday, Flyer; for in finding your way, and being at peace with all of it; you have helped others in their journey towards accomplishing and reaching their own.

  44. Hey everyone, I am visiting my father for a few days … Will be home Wednesday . I will give you an update then.

    Prairie Flower

  45. I found a great card to send. I’ll be looking around for my new tree, too. A Forrest Forest! Will we get to see a photo of FF w/his card haul?

  46. happy pre-birthday wishes, Forrest

i actually planted this tree (Tane Mahuta – Lord of the Forest) a few years back, after trading some Kauri beans for our beloved family cow at the local market

  47. Hey Everyone,

I need a few things from those of you who want me to put your tree information in the presentation. Many posted what they wanted to plant, but I need ALL the following information:

Your Name – Type of Tree – City, State – a photo

If you don’t want to send a photo, I will find a stock photo of the type of tree.

So, please send me all the info …. respond here or even easier (for me) respond to trees4forrestfenn@gmail.com

    Please send ASAP

  48. Well, running to the border in the morning for a week to plant a few seeds. Planting is always rewarding. If all goes well we won’t see the blog name “Forrest Fire” for a very long time.

An Indian Scout and a Saint.

      • Finally have a few moments to answer a few. Got here with the wind at my back. I wish I would have made it earlier but it was too late. The end of the tree had ended only with my words for his side. He was a good man, I said. A voice of sorrow said he did what he had to do. I then got to thinking it is time to go planting then to bless the rains from time to time. Let it fall and stand strong, tomorrow will be a good day as it was yesterday and to live life like today.

      • I think the wind, fire, ashes, water, birds, animals are sowing the forest all the time.nature itself is constantly evolving, never stopping.as humans,we are changing every day.past is the past.furure may not come, we have the present.the present, god has given us all a talent, present, treasure, ourself,me,myself and I.each person ,one.treasure,we all think different, have different opions on the poem ,so were are not wrong.

  49. Hi Prairie Flower, I sent email with tree picture few days ago. Hope you got it and it will show up on Forrestnmap for his bday!

  50. While searching through my favorite nursery I just happened to run across a “stolen treasure”. Perhaps there is a place, somewhere under the rainbow, where a stolen treasure could rest peacefully next to a forest pine.

  51. Happy Birthday Forrest Fenn

    Can you believe
    It’s come around again?
    Another notch on the post,
    A cake of Forrest fire,
    I raise my glass
    And I toast
    A man I greatly admire.

    Forrest Fenn
    You’ve changed my life
    You’ve made it something new.
I wonder how time might have passed
If I’d never heard of you.

    I’ve looked for your box
    But I’ll tell you what,
    Solving you’re poem
Is a pain in the butt!

I did find a treasure though,
In the mountains and the woods,
On the blogs at at boree,
    You delivered on the goods.

You gave us all a gift
    You see
    It’s given every day
For every single one of us
We get a chance to play.
So even though the years add up
And time is less a friend,
Remember you’ll live on in us,
    Forever, Forrest fenn!

    Happy Birthday Forrest. ๐Ÿ™‚

  52. Thanks all, I appreciate it, and I forward the ante of gratitude to the birthday boy! ๐Ÿ˜‰
. I know we all feel the same! ๐Ÿ™‚

  53. Jdiggins, that birthday poem for our Birthday Boy is very beautiful, and just right! Gave me tears…. Great job! We do all feel the same! ; )

    Prairie Flower
p.s. Everyone who emailed at the email address listed above, your photos, etc. have been incorporated!

    • Prairie Flower,

We’ve planted several Hickory here in central Wisconsin – Green Lake County, town of Princeton. These trees, which live 200 – 300yrs, were favorites of the Native Americans and provided them with medicines, materials for tools, fuel, dyes, musical instruments and food.

      ~ Wisconsin Mike

    • Prairie Flower:
Colorado Springs, CO. Haven’t been able to plant a new one, but will happily dedicate an aspen in my backyard in Forrest’s name. Cheers!

    • Prairie Flower,

Been on vacation chasing the eclipse. Saw the birthday greetings from a hotel room and my tree is in the slide show with my given name. I think some might be able to figure out which one is the one I planted.

      (Some Where West Of Toledo)

      • Hey everyone,
I have had pneumonia for about 3 weeks now. I am finally getting my strength back.

If anyone wants a name, etc changed in the current video, just let me know. Also, if you missed the dead line to get in the video, but would like to have your info included, please email me. I will put out an updated video at the end of September.

Finally, I think it would be fun to do this every year! I would love to keep adding to the forest. We could make the colors of the trees different for each year. I bet Forrest will live to be at least 100.

        Prairie Flower

  55. Another note … I have not given the final ‘product’ to Dal yet. I want to finish it by Monday high noon and then send it to Dal to be posted on Tuesday, Forrest’s birthday! Sorry for any misunderstanding.

ALSO, you do not have to plant a new tree. You can dedicate one from your yard that’s already been there for awhile! (Just trying to include everyone!)

    • Wow!!! So beautiful pdenver! Keeping me gratefully emotional all day! …..just beautiful! Warm hugs for our birthday boy! ; )

      • Yes… Wow PDenver that was beautiful.. My card I bought at Target seems kinda lame now! I think it was made from recycled paper if that helps ๐Ÿ™‚

        • Spallies, yes it helps that your card is made of recycled paper…… you just saved a tree my friend… ๐Ÿ™‚ have a great night spallies…. until next time… see ya

      • I agree Anna …. that was beautiful …

  57. Happy Birthday, Forrest!
I was trying to find a really cool bracelet to give you for a present over the weekend, but failed in this task. ๐Ÿ™
Will try to get it for you as a belated gift!

    • Prairie Flower – The video is totally awesome and incredibly beautiful. Thank you again for your great idea and all your hard work to produce it. I know Forrest will really appreciate receiving it.

    • What a nice video. I’m sure Forrest will love it as much as we love him. Thanks, Prairie Flower for putting this together.

    • wow! ..fantastic montage Prairie Flower, and great music pick ๐Ÿ™‚ my fav is def Desertphile’s (pine?) sapling with the majestic cliffs in the back-ground (nice job DP)

although, i was abit worried that Dal’s shrub may have been unjustly imprisoned for a crime it didn’t actually commit ..?

( ..i mean, do they even have Triffids in Canada?)

  58. Happy birthday, Forrest! We have a waterfall tree in our front yard–well, a weeping birch, really–that we’ve named after you. It’s hanging over and barely touching our pond. If you imagine a wide, 25-ft tall waterfall spilling over rocks, so there are a bunch of smaller falls within the whole, then turn the thicker water rivulets into white branches and the spray into birch leaves, that’s the tree!

Much love to you and your family.

Thanks for all your hard work Prairie Flower, Dal and to all the tree lovers!
    Cheers to Forrest!

  60. Happy Birthday Forrest! I’ll try to send some home maid Jelly with some Elder berries in it this year. So you’ll have many more Birthdays. I ‘ve been told there good for Longevity. You take care and God speed!!

    • The gift wouldn’t happen to be a certain turquoise bracelet, I pray.

Happy Birthday, Mr. Fenn! The only word to describe you is…………amazing. Because you amaze us all in so many ways and on so many levels.

Many, many more birthdays I pray for you!

    Prairie Flower

    • Hi Prairie Flower, I’m relatively new to The Chase, but I wanted to also thank you for such a beautiful video. I rushed home yesterday to get to my computer to see it yet on Forrest’s birthday! Thankfully, I did get to send Forrest a birthday card last week but regret to say I couldn’t figure out how to upload my tree photos from my phone to my computer in order to get them to you on time for the video. I don’t want to “blow up” your email with now-unnecessary pics, but is there somewhere to still send the photos for any future “forrests for Forrest”? Thanks so much and, again, REALLY cool video. Thanks for putting that together and sharing it!

  73. As I sit here in this special place of wonder my mind drifts off in many curious directions. One of which is knowing you were here, waiting, another is knowing there will be more to come. This meeting of the waters, both new and old, tell a special story one of which there is no ending. How many times these same waters have passed by this same place shall forever be a mystery to me. The one thing I do know is that at each passing, if you listen close, the voices you hear are those of peace, a peace that cannot be explained without experience. The beauty may have always been here but today it’s special because today there is celebration. Thank You Mr. Fenn for inviting us all to your party, the one which will never end.

    Happy Birthday!

      • Thanks pdenver,
However it’s Mr. Fenn that deserves all the credit, he is the inspirational one. Without his foresight I would never have met you and that would have left my life incomplete. Just between you and i, do you think he needed help blowing out all those candles? I’ll bet Peggy needed help lighting them:)

          • psdnver,

Our friend, Strawshadow, has expressed all that you are to me as well.

What a joy and beam of sunlight you bring! Your warmth and kindness is endless.

          • Thank you so much for your kind words. I find my life richer knowing you are a part of it, my friend.

        • Your kind heart is showing, my friend, and I am truly grateful for your kind words. As far as Mr. Fenn needing help blowing out his candles, I think it depends on how far apart Mrs. Fenn placed them on his cake. ๐Ÿ™‚ I believe Mrs. Fenn had plenty of help, if not, the first few candles would have been spent before reaching the middle. ๐Ÿ™‚

  74. Forrest,
Wishing you a “Happy Birthday”. Enjoy your special day, but also take a little time to enjoy what you have created and the enjoyment many have found searching for “The Thrill of the Chase”. Bur

  75. Happy Birthday, Forrest. You are living a remarkable life. Thank you for sharing it with us.

  76. Happy 87th, Mr. Fenn. Wow, 87. You’re older than Canada and U.S. combined – in dog years ๐Ÿ™‚

  77. Happy Birthday Mr. Forrest. Many More. May you have so many candles on your cakes, that they are visible from space. Ken in Georgia

  78. Mr. Fenn,
Two great men in my life are having a birthday today, you and my grandson, Jesse! (5)
A pink dogwood was planted next to my mom’s grave, and it’s sister was planted in my back yard. Didn’t send a pic.
I hope your birthday was all you deserved and then some. You’re a lucky man, so many love you!
Wet a hook and take a nap!
    Happy Birthday! โ™ก
    ยฅPeace ยฅ
    Donna M.

  79. Forrest Fenn, no way you are 87!!!!

Happy Birthday!!!!!! May all your birthday wishes come true.

  80. Happy Birthday my friend. I have learned so much about such great places in the west! You are a great inspiration to many! Cheers!

  81. I asked the wise old man on the mountain the secret of a long lifeโ€ฆ.And for your birthday, I thought I’d like to pass along his words of wisdom to you:

“Keep breathing as long as possible!”

Happy Birthday Forrest…..keep on keepin’ on….. and thanks again for everything!!!

  82. Okay, I’ll be the first belated (ha, ha):

Happy Belated Birthday Forrest! I hope your day with your family and friends was filled with much love and joyful play.

Because, as fellow searcher Jdiggins put in an earlier poem on this thread, this is what, IMHO, you did for all of us with The Chase Mr. Fenn:
“For every single one of us We get a chance to play”.

Perhaps that’s what I’ve meant all along when I say how The Chase has helped me through such a tragic time in my life. You gave me a chance to remember—for the rest of my days, no less—the joy of playing (in the woods, in my mind, while discussing possible “solutions” with others, wherever). In fact, I can even play while observing ANYTHING in daily life; I can “look for clues” (or not) anytime; it’s my choice.

And it’s not the kind of “adult play” where I’m losing money at a casino or something…it’s the childhood play I used to adore—free fun that lets creativity and imagination run wild. And it’s a joy to watch—even in myself.

I think I’ve finally come to understand “that look” (still can’t find the word for it, though) in my great-grandmother’s wise old eyes when she’d sit and enjoy watching my siblings and I play at her feet. I mean, she would watch for HOURS and smile. Now I understand; in her own way, she was playing too. ๐Ÿ™‚

For all of these gifts–and for your bravery in being who you, letting the world see, giving us The Chase and not backing down from it–I am forever thankful to you Forrest.

So I hope that—along with tons of love—you also had a very playful day for your birthday. And I wish you all the happiness of continued playfulness for the rest of your (many) years to come!

  83. Happy Birthday Forrest
I have missed you and the gang here on the chase. I have been busy trying to get an old 35 ton excavator running so that we can teach children about the quiet and beauty of nature while looking for quartz crystals in a natural forest here in Arkansas. I have been in the woods alot lately and i love the peacefulness it puts in my heart and the smile on my face. Thank you Forrest for all you have given to so many people.

  84. First, Happy (belated) Birthday, Forrest! Thank you so much for this
    treasure hunt!

A little off the subject, but folks might approve of this sentiment anyway:

In addition to planting trees, I am considering picking up litter that I find
when out in the wilderness, on a search hike. I haven’t seen a lot of this,
but could certainly bring some of it back and dispose of it “properly”.

I hope other searchers will also consider doing this.

Good luck to all searchers. Please keep safety a high priority when in
    the Rockies.

    • Good idea TF… But maybe we should also make an art piece out of it. ๐Ÿ™‚ That could be fun!!!
