May your bones be creaky not due to age but due to all the wisdom that had no room left to fit under your hat.
Sore joints are a sign of well lived years.

May you blow another candle out with many adventures yet to find. Kh, Cheyenne wy

  2. Happy Birthday!

Would sure like to connect with Leaky Waders. Looks like Leaky and I both call Groveland CA home.

I dedicated 8 beautiful new Ponderosas to the birthday Forrest. The one in the photo probably enjoys the water as much as Forrest does. It planted itself along the water’s edge at our home and it seems to enjoy watching fishermen cast their lines into the water. We don’t have Brown Trout but do have some nice Rainbows.

    Happy Birthday Forrest!

      • No wonder I didn’t think we had any Candelabra Trees on our lake. Looks like a great tree for Forrest’s forest.

You did a great job on the video Prairie Flower!

  3. To a very special guy, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Forrest!

You have been a blessing and an inspiration to us all! 🙂

  4. Happy Birthday! Spending this week by the ocean I haven’t been talking about finding the treasure but my 5 year old occasional says the treasure is over there Daddy while pointing to an interesting scenic area. I have definitely found contentment.

  5. I started writing this 88th birthday wish list with the sentence:
Mr Fenn, I wish you many, many more years of enjoyment in following the splendid treasure chase you created, but then I suddenly realized, I really don’t know if you are still enjoying it, or are you somewhat tired of it and want the chase to end.

So, until I figure that out, I will just say, have a Happy 88th Birthday Mr Fenn.

  6. Happy Birthday Mr. Fenn! Enjoy your day and thank you so much for the Chase. God Bless you Forrest…

  7. And here is another clue for you all……the bIRTHBAY dOY is the one that aTEY-aTE that cake with so many many nicely bLAZING candles.

  8. Happy 88th Birthday Mr. Forrest! I had a dream about you the other night, in it you gave a special clue just for me, “Indulgence is on the moon, just like that nesting bird”. Now I just have to figure out how to get to the moon. Enjoyed talking with you at Collected Works during the Fennboree Book Signing. Thanks for the Adventure! Ken Joyce

  12. To Forrest, a blessing;

    May you always have your
Wits about you and your summers never end.

As you dance the joys and sorrows
    Of life’s long masquerade.

Happy Birthday Forrest from a lowly wit in Texas

  13. I am paiid to make videos and films for the US Immigration Service and US National Park Service, mainly in scenic locations, some I produced are in places like “Chaco Canyon” and “Quari Mission” in Salinas Missions Monument etc. I made this one just for fun and just for you Forrest, I feel you know where this is, it should be a National Monument, but it’s not… at least not yet. Happy Birthday, Enjoy! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m-GD4vhA3No

  17. Happy Birthday Forrest!

I had hoped to give you your bracelet on your birthday, but alas, that did not work out.

Maybe you will receive it soon. I have never enjoyed anything in my life as much as I have enjoyed the chase. I am forever in your debt.

    Your Ever-Grateful Friend and FENN-atic – JDA

  18. Happy Birthday Forrest!

    An Old Irish Blessing

    Keep on Keeping on….

  19. “Happy Birthday Mr. Fenn”. Well another one under that “turquoise belt buckle” of yours. It’s time to smile and look back at this thrill you have given to so many. If you don’t have a wish, then today is the day to make one.

Maybe your worries be short and your relaxing days be long.

  20. Happy birthday, Forrest!
You have made such a positive impact on so many people and deserve the happiest of birthdays. You are a true inspiration of the kind of person that this world needs more of and I aspire to be.
    Happy birthday, sir!
    And many more!

  21. Well, there just went 1/88 of your life… contrast that to when you turned 2… that birthday was 1/2 your life (up to that point). Think about that for a minute. 🙂

    Happy Birthday… and many more!!!

  22. Happy 88th birthday Mr Fenn! (And happy 10th to my nephew Jaiden).
Thank you for getting me off my butt to see some nature. 🙂

  26. Happy birthday forrest . Your the man !!! Will make my attempt tonight soon as the woodsmen are gone. Meanwhile I’m playing Canasta at a rest stop with some kids. They are killing me and I can’t seem to hit a lay-up. Take care and may Thor bless your old #?!*@$ . hehe

  27. Happy Birthday Forrest!! I hope you have a great one today. And I hope there are many, many more birthdays to follow. You are truly an inspiration. Thank you so much for hiding that Treasure, Forrest–it has affected so many lives for the better.

I’m going to plant a banana tree in your honor. So add one more tree to the list. lol

  28. Mr. Fenn,

Thank you for the opportunity you have given all of us for the “Thrill of the Chase”. I have enjoyed your stories and love all those timeless photos of you and your family. You have the same birthday as my grandmother who lived in Mississippi. Also when you read your preface to “Too Far to Walk” that was my favorite thing. I will leave you with the ending of a poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.

    “A boy’s will is the wind’s will,
And the thoughts of youth are long, long thoughts.”

  29. Throughout the years it becomes aware
The only fear are the ones we never dare
    Another year may say goodbye
Only to remember; a flutterby is still a butterfly

  30. Happy Birthday Forrest
I’m sure you will have a few more years to go.
Just don’t go until you have that smile on your face
Knowing a Red Neck and his truck full of children has
    Indeed found your treasure.

    Again Happy Birthday to you.

  31. Another page has turned
And the binding is getting worn.
As all the years are learned,
From that day we were born.

Live everyday like it’s your birthday!

  32. I hope you have a terrific birthday and many happy returns Forrest Fenn!

Thanks for all the fun and stories.

  33. Happy Birthday Mr. Fenn. I hope you have many blessings your way. TTOTC has been so exciting for all of us. Only one guy such as yourself could have made it so tricky.

  34. Happy birthday, Mr. Fenn. May life continue to bring you all the best kinds of treasure. You are certainly a treasure to all of us.

  35. Ok now for the humor attempt…

So Forrest, can you tell us a short story about what life was like before the wheel was invented?

    – Wy runs down the fire escape before Forrest can bounce him around like a rubber ball….

    • Good idea Leroy and Dal, I just did another donation in honor of Forrest’s birthday. What do you give a guy who seemingly has it all? I am sure this is what he would want. Dave

  36. Happy Birthday Forrest … thank you for your poem / riddle … i never would have seen the southwest without your guidance … planning to have another go at botg … but not sure when. Thanks again !!!

    Safety First Always!!!

  37. 88 years and Forrest Fenn: a couple of big deals. Still going strong and mind sharp as a tack. What a life! Happy Birthday, Fenn Master.

  38. Happy Birthday Mr. Fenn. You continue to inspire and impact so many of us in a positive way.

  39. Happy Birthday Mr. Fenn. May you outlive us all and then take it with you for good measure.

  40. Happy Birthday Forrest! A Star for each year.
    You are a Star!

  41. Thanks gang. I don’t feel any older, but if my memory serves me correctly George Washington came to my first birthday party. f

    • Nice that you had Presidential connections when that job was still dignified. How did George look at 142? 😀

    • You had me sweating there for the 62nd minute. Good thing you wrote the poem down, kiddo. W. must have been George’s middle initial. Hope your day was … better than a poke in the eye with a stick.

    • You wouldn’t happen to have his wig would you? :o)

Do something you’ve never done before on this birthday. Like you said, I would do everything different.

    • On his birthday in 1799, George Washington arrived at the steps of Gadsby’s Tavern in Alexandria with massive fanfare.

When I am in DC I always go to Gadsbys for a meal. It takes me back in time to the earliest days of our fair republic.

Alexandria and the French Quarter in New Orleans are two different f my favorite places to experience history.

  42. Happy Birthday Forrest ! Here’s a short one for you… if you read down the first letter of every sentence it spells “BIRTHDAY”… remember it’s not over til midnight…. have a great evening….. until next time… see ya

    “ Birthday Song”

Beginning of a breath so new,

Into a world so bright and bold.

Relying on those close to you,

    Together grow, a life unfolds.

    Hours turn to passing years,

Day by day you stroll along.

    Awaiting on the welcomed cheers,

Your special day, your birthday song….

  50. Dear Mr. f……

May there always be work for your hands to do
May your purse always hold a coin or two
May the sun always shine upon your window pane
May a rainbow be certain to follow each rain
May a hand of a friend be always near to you
May God bless you for all the goodness you do

May you always see God’s light on the path which lays ahead,
when the road you walk is dark
May you always hear , even in an hour of sorrow,
the gentle singing of the lark
When times are hard, may hardness never turn your heart to stone
May you always remember, though shadows fall,
    you do not walk alone….

    Wishing you a happy birthday and many, many more;

    Sherif Billy and Deputy Katie

  51. I keep trying to post this little story and it doesn’t want to take–hopefully this time:

    The Cherry Tree
    Author: M. L. Weems

When George Washington was about six years old, he was made the wealthy master of a hatchet of which, like most little boys, he was extremely fond. He went about chopping everything that came his way.

One day, as he wandered about the garden amusing himself by hacking his mother’s pea- sticks, he found a beautiful, young English cherry tree, of which his father was most proud. He tried the edge of his hatchet on the trunk of the tree and barked it so that it died.

Some time after this, his father discovered what had happened to his favorite tree. He came into the house in great anger, and demanded to know who the mischievous person was who had cut away the bark. Nobody could tell him anything about it.

Just then George, with his little hatchet, came into the room.

“George,” said his father, “do you know who has killed my beautiful little cherry tree yonder in the garden? I would not have taken five guineas for it!”

This was a hard question to answer, and for a moment George was staggered by it, but quickly recovering himself he cried: —

“I cannot tell a lie, father, you know I cannot tell a lie! I did cut it with my little hatchet.”

The anger died out of his father’s face, and taking the boy tenderly in his arms, he said: —

“My son, that you should not be afraid to tell the truth is more to me than a thousand trees! yes, though they were blossomed with silver and had leaves of the purest gold!”

  52. Forrest,
I am looking at a piece of ivory and a small ruby red arrowhead that you gave me. I have held them in my hands countless times and could feel their power; or maybe is was a sense more than a feeling. You tought me this and my world is much better for it. You consistantly inspire me and challenge my mind.
So hats off to you, I raise my glass and toast at this special time in your life –
Happy Birthday, Forrest! And all the best to you and yours!
    Chris M

  53. Happy Birthday greetings to you Mr. Fenn! Although belated, the sentiment is the same. Trust you had a wonderful day sharing it with your family and friends.

  54. Happy belated B-day Forrest! You are one of kind. Thanks for giving so many hope and inspiration.

  55. got a question for you guys,I am alittle confused,in jennys new book,at the end with the dice, which is the code ,the numbers or the moon picture with the abcs,

  56. Happy belated birthday Forrest. May you have many more.
Thank you for giving the gift of imagination and travel. Places my wife and I have traveled to and seen would not have even crossed our minds if it not for your inviting us to take part in the chase. At least with us, you have accomplished your goal of getting people of the sofa and into the outdoors.
We are still working our solve, keeping our minds busy and plan on another trip as soon as our schedule will allow. It really has become about the “chase” and not about the “chest”. People love the challenge more than the find.
Once again, many sincere thanks for all you have done and happy belated birthday.

  57. Forrest, much love
    Happy birthday around now.

    Playing eighty-eight in Santa Fe
In all of life today’s the day.

May you rise by the Sun and dance by the light of the Moon.

  58. Happy Belated Birthday Mr Fenn. Been away from civilization for a while (Idaho), and got back to find that I’d missed the anniversary of your birth. May this be a special year for you.

  59. Forrest, in the past, I have thanked you for opportunity.. and I have thanked you for teaching your wisdom..
Today, I want to thank you for PLAYING with me/all of us.. I want you to know that my inner child is really ENJOYING the FUN of chasing your drift.. for example, the visual sensation of looking at WOW as a gaping maw truly TICKLES me..
Thank you for coming over and playing with me, rain or shine! Hopefully one day I’ll be able to put BOTG with you

    • Words of Wisdom all around! Chasing his drift has been a challenge and I wonder if he enjoyed the play as well. Probably. BOTG with him would be fun and interesting – the master on a BOTG! ooops was that a shiver – nah, it’s confident excitement. lol This has been so much fun and I never want it to stop – the fun that is. I believe it will continue . . . I would add snow sleet and hail with that rain or shine – depends on where one is BOTG in the summer. I managed to get sunburnt/tanned today and it is only winter! Nice thinking of him on his birthday – it will be 89! WOW and still a youngin’!
