Not Moose Pics…

chfphotoalbum

I’ve never seen a moose in Jellystone and I am certain moose do not exist. What I believe people see are elk wearing one of Forrest’s earlier inventions, the “Moose Me Kit”. Tens of thousands of these kits were purchased by the Forrest Service from the 60s through the 90s and are still in use today. Many people think that Forrest became wealthy by trading in Western art and artifacts. But that’s not the case. It was his fat government contract for Moose Me Kits that made Forrest a multi-millionaire.

In the mid-20th century hunters had nearly eliminated the elk herds of this country. No one knew what to do. Forrest came up with the “Moose Me Kit” which would disguise elk as a brand new animal he invented, called the moose. Since there was no season on theses new animals hunters did not shoot them. Today we have billions of elk and many still masquerade as moose. But moose are a fictitious animal and do not really exist except in cartoons and wrapping paper.

Scott W - This was taken in the Valles Caldera last summer. It is on the Northeast side of the caldera as you drive to the San Antonio Creek reaches 1,2, and 3. I'm not sure what the rules and regulations are now that the park service took it over, but before this June there where strict regulations on personal vehicles in the caldera. In fact, you could only drive your car in if you had purchased a fishing permit well in advance. At the time, only 22 fishermen/women where allowed in the entire caldera per day, and that was the only way possible to drive your vehicle in. There where five of us that day, and as luck would have it we were the only ones in the entire caldera. We spent the whole day there pic-nicking and fly-fishing. It was awesome!

Scott W - When we go searching for the treasure we make sure we have plenty of non-searching activity planned. In this photo my youngest daughter shows off her casting skills. We practiced for two months almost every day in a pond near our house; we caught a lot of bass in the process. We rented a cabin a few miles south of the Tererro general store. The cabin included a half mile of private fishing rights on the Pecos. We stayed there for a week and spent father's day there as well. It was a great time, and I was presented with a very nice compass so I could always find my way home.

Scott W - Firstly, thanks to my wife for the perfect timing on the shutter snap! This was taken outside the cabin we rented on the Pecos river, which we used as a base camp for the search. It was father's day, and after opening and reading the cards aloud, I was presented with a gift. I travel a lot, and they wanted to make sure I could always find my way home. In the box is a very beautiful compass. They had it modified to accept a carabiner so I could attach it to the backpack I take with me on business trips. I can honestly say it was the best Father's day ever.

(picture attached) Came out really awesome, and he signed it as well. This is certainly something that will be framed and cherished for years to come. Thanks again to all: Dal, Forrest and the Judges. Still wrapping up my two year solve, on the last passage, and feel like I could still spend years solving it. Having fun and really enjoying everyone else’s resent solves coming out. Best of luck to all with boots on the ground this summer.

That was at the outlet of Shoshone lake. the clues fit this area. put in at Lewis lake, go to the end of the Lewis river channel, but to do so you have to pull your boat of the channel( heavy loads) because you can't paddle up it either because it's to swift or to shallow depending on the time of year and at the end of the channel where it opens up into Shoshone lake a creek named summit creek dumps into it.(water high). If you've been wise and found the blaze("trail" blaze) look quickly down. there is a trail that leads you into the same place so you don't have to go by boat or water( meek) this was my first attempt at solving the riddle.
